What is Counselling & Psychotherapy ?
What is Counselling?
Counselling can help you when you are going through a major change such as a relationship breakdown, illness or loss. It can help you through a time of crisis or a transition in your life. A qualified Counsellor can provide the support and gentle challenge to begin to change.
The counselling may be short-term or longer depending on your need for help through this difficult time. Counselling can offer you support and a place to explore your feelings and thoughts as you regain a greater sense of control in your life. As you look at the positive and negative aspects of differing approaches to your problem you can consider how you can move forward with your life.
Through counselling you may come to understand your situation better and to put it in the context of your overall life experience. With the sense of being deeply understood and accepted you have the opportunity to grow emotionally and to resolve inner conflicts.

What is Psychotherapy?
Although the edges between counselling and psychotherapy may be rather blurred, psychotherapy can be said to be working at greater depth and probably for longer term. A Psychotherapist can help you explore repeating patterns in your life. Through this you can come to understand the roots of these in childhood experience.
As an adult you have more choices available to you to break out of destructive and difficult patterns of feelings, thinking and behaviour. As you reflect upon this in psychotherapy you can consider how to break these unwanted patterns and move towards more aware ways of living.

" Thankyou so much for your help. I don't believe I would have got through this without you" Client
Over the past 15 years I have worked with numerous issues with my clients including all of these detailed below:
What Benefits can be Expected?
Clients may attend for a short series of counselling sessions to focus on a particular problem or issue. I typically offer six session blocks and clients are often surprised by the amount of change which can occur within six sessions. Psychotherapy clients may want to work on deeper childhood patterns over a longer span to produce significant and lasting change to their lives.
The First Session
I always regard the first session as an opportunity to explore what is happenning for the client. I will clarify at the end of the first session if further sessions may be helpful or not. The first session is an opportunity for the client to check-out if they feel comfortable both with me and with the approach which I use.
